How to Read Your Bill

We want your water bill to be clear and easily understandable. At VRWD, we believe in transparency and making sure our customers are well-informed about their water usage and billing. Here's a breakdown of how to read your monthly statement.

Rates and Fees

Ventura River Water District conducts an annual review of our rates to guarantee their fairness, adherence to legal requirements, and affordability for our valued customers. Our commitment is to keep rates as cost-effective as we can while maintaining District infrastructure.

Water rates, which represent the price you pay for the water you consume, encompass the expenses associated with water production, planned capital improvement projects, and are categorized based on the customer type, be it residential, commercial, or multi-family.

Water Budget Program

The District’s Water Budget Program assigns customized water allocations based on each property's unique characteristics to encourage efficient and responsible water use. This system enables customers to compare their water consumption with their actual needs, supporting sustainable resource management.

Residential water budgets consist of two parts: an indoor "Health and Safety" allocation of 8 units per single-family home to cover essential needs, and an outdoor allocation that varies according to specific parcel features, such as lot size, landscaping, pools, medical or care facilities, and livestock. These factors determine each customer's outdoor water allowance.

Monthly water budgets are dynamic, with outdoor allocations adjusting to seasonal weather changes. For instance, higher water budgets are provided in August when plants require more water than in February.

Water allocations are designed to promote responsible use. While occasional exceedance is not problematic, consistently exceeding your allocation may require a review of your water efficiency practices or an adjustment to your allocation. Please contact us if your usage regularly surpasses your allotted amount.

Payment Options

A variety of payment options are available to our customers. Payments can be made by mail, in person, phone, online, or autopay.

By Mail

For added security, the District has implemented a lockbox service with Mechanics Bank. Payments are processed directly by the bank. Payments can be mailed to our lockbox service at:

In Person

Payments are accepted in person Monday to Friday, between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm at our office located at 409 Old Baldwin Rd, Ojai, CA 93023. For added convenience, an after-hours payment dropbox is accessible outside the office and available for use 24/7.

Pay By Phone

Two ways to pay: (1) Dial 855-594-0615 for a single payment. To complete the transaction, please have your phone payment ID ready, which can be found in the top right corner of your statement. (2) Call our office at (805) 646-3403 and our customer service team can take payments. Service fees apply.

Online Payments via Credit Card or eCheck

Take control of your account online by setting up an online account to make payments or view past statements.

Our District provides an Autopay program and payments are deducted on the 6th of each month. Payments can be charged to a checking account, debit card, or credit card. Service fees apply.
